Through classes and membership, Saratoga Joinery provides a space for everyone to learn, create, connect and become inspired in a safe, inclusive and collaborative environment. Our shop at 69 Caroline Street in downtown Saratoga Springs is fully-equipped with high-quality machines and tools and provides 8,500 square feet of bright, clean workspace to the community.
Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shop Manager to oversee our community woodworking shop. The ideal candidate will have a passion for woodworking, excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, and a strong understanding of woodworking techniques and materials and shop safety.

Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day operations of the woodworking shop, including:
  • Shop and building maintenance
  • Supervising and enforcing safety protocol with guests, members, and volunteers
  • Providing excellent customer service to guests and members
    
• Manage the shop’s safety training, including:
  • Teaching trainings regularly
  • Overseeing training to ensure quality
  • Training new teachers when necessary
    
• Assist in managing our growing volunteer team, including:
  • Managing shop projects and effectively delegating tasks
  • Ensuring they are properly trained
    
• Provide excellent service to our members, including:
  • Ensuring members feel welcome and comfortable
  • Engaging with members to understand their projects and skill levels and providing assistance when requested
  • Directing members to resources and opportunities to maximize their membership
    
• Assist Executive Director in various ways, including:
  • Light administrative work as needed‍

‍Requirements: 

• Experience in woodworking, including knowledge of various tools, techniques, and materials
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role
• Experience working in a woodworking shop
• Some workplace/workshop safety training
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team
  
  

This position is approximately 25 hours per week. Pay is hourly and commensurate with experience. PTO is included. Ability to work at least one weekend day and occasional evenings is required. 

This position reports to the Executive Director.
