Saratoga Joinery, a community woodworking shop located at 69 Caroline Street in downtown Saratoga Springs, celebrated their recent opening with a Grand Opening Event at their shop on Saturday, March 16. The community responded with great enthusiasm as over 300 people showed up to see the space and inquire about classes and membership.
Saratoga Joinery’s team of staff, volunteers and board members donned themselves in branded work aprons and stationed themselves throughout the space to mingle with attendees and answer questions. Attendees were able to wander through the entire space, chatting with the Saratoga Joinery team, admiring beautiful wood art, and enjoying homemade baked goods. Peter Harrison, a local furniture maker, and John Kingsley, a master woodturner, demonstrated their crafts to generate interest in their upcoming classes at the Joinery. Harrison showed the crowd how to hand-cut dovetails and Kingsley showed how to create wood bowls on a lathe.
“There are two primary ways to engage with us: membership and classes,” said Executive Director Tori Colarusso. “We heard a lot of interest in beginner classes on Saturday. Now that we’re open, we are putting our focus into building a robust class calendar. Everyone is able to come here and take a class – no membership required.” Saratoga Joinery is currently offering a build-your-own cutting board class for beginners with dates in April and May. In the near future, the community can expect classes on woodturning, hand tool techniques, and various woodworking projects for all experience levels.
The Saratoga Joinery team delighted in the success of their Grand Opening event. “People really want to see the space and enjoy coming to events like these to make personal connections in the process,” said John Haller, Founder and Board President. “We encourage people to come by and get a tour whenever we’re open. We love meeting folks in the community who are interested in what we're doing." Saratoga Joinery is offerinthroughout the month of April.
